Qinshan Nuclear Power Corporation (QNPC) is a large scale, high tech enterprise under CNNC. Over 50% of its employees are technical personnel in various specialties, including 163 senior engineers and 295 engineers. Qinshan 300 MW PWR unit of the first phase project was started to generate electricity in 1991. It was put into commercial operation on April 1, 1994 and passed the acceptance qualification by the competent authorities concerned on July 13, 1995. The annual power output of the unit is over 1 500 million kWh. The unit generated electricity of 1 740 million kWh in 1993 with load factor of 66%, reaching its designed generating capability two years ahead of schedule. In 1994, the unit generated electricity of 1 780 million kWh, creating economic benefit of 470 million yuan RMB. By the end of 1995, the accumulative output of electricity amounted to 6 060 million kWh. Apart from giving priority to safe and stable operation of the unit, QNPC devotes itself actively to development of tertiary industry. The economic entities under QNPC include QNPC Technology Development Co, QNPC Maintenance Co, Training Centre (Guoguang Hotel), etc. In line with its development in China, QNPC is searching for its chance in the international market by contracting the NPP projects worldwide. QNPC were awarded a national medal in 1992, and was entitled as ministerial advanced unit in 1993 and 1994.
